The Battlefield of Arjuna and the Bhagavad Gita

The Battlefield of Arjuna and the Bhagavad Gita

The Bhagavad Gita – meaning, “Song of the Lord” – is one of India’s best-known scriptures.  In it, Arjuna – a warrior weary of battle – has another battle to fight.  He has lost heart and doesn’t want to do what is expected of him.

As the story begins, Arjuna is so distraught over the idea of another battle that he collapses, overwhelmed with anguish.

It isn’t just the battlefield of war which has overwhelmed Arjuna, however.  It is really the battlefield of life, with all of its various ups and downs, which is crushing his spirit.  To make his way forward, Arjuna must turn to a higher power since he can no longer make it on his own.

He turns to Krishna who instructs him on all sorts of subjects, such as living and dying, loving and working.  Krishna also explains the nature of the soul to Arjuna.
